Freedom of an Anonymous Twitter

When I created a Twitter at age 16, I honestly just wanted attention/likes/affirmation. When I got back on Twitter after five years, my feed just felt noisy with tweets from people I used to know and various things that distract me. I created an anonymous twitter a week ago. Here are some benefits I have experienced:

1. Freedom to Follow as many people or organizations as I want. No one can judge my following to followers ratio. I follow writers and reputable organizations that tweet about topics that I want to read live tweets about: business, social justice, and Purdue.

2. Freedom to not Follow Back - and not having an awkward moment afterward. On my new account, I don't follow anyone I know personally.

3. Freedom to Tweet as much as I want without being judged for spamming anyone's feed. I mostly like to comment on popular tweets or show my support for certain hashtags. I don't use the anonymity as a way to hide behind hateful comments, but people online can be so critical of the smallest things - It's so annoying.

Lesson Learned: There's so much freedom in being in a position where you don't constrain yourself based on what others think. Furthermore, since I only follow accounts that tweet about issues I care about, Twitter is now a really cool place for me to digest new information on issues I care about.

Think about an area of your life that feels noisy: your closet, your fridge, your Facebook, your bookshelf,... maybe the solution isn't an anonymous twitter, but an occasional purge can be a good thing.
