DIY Thread Art - My Places of Origin

I'm a big fan of art that reflects personal identity. I made this to show the places I lived in the US: New Orleans, Los Angeles, Toledo & Findlay (OH), Indianapolis, West Lafayette, and Knoxville.

You can do the same.

you will need:
1) wooden board
2) nails
3) thread
4) a hammer
5) pen and paper
6) tape
7) (optional) a wood burning tool

instructions:
1. Draw the design you want on a piece of paper and center it. Personally, I printed an image of the map of the US, and traced it.
 2. Tape either side

3. One thing that could make hammering easier is drawing dots where you want to hammer. Then, start hammering.

4. Once all the nails are in, start removing the paper.

5. Tie the thread at one nail. Now you can thread to whatever design you like. I just wanted to do some random design with my white thread for fun.

 7. After finishing with the white thread, I decided to outline the shape with red, which I wrapped around each nail to create a double line.

 8. After the white and the red, I went back and outlined the places I have lived with the blue thread.
 9. Cut to finish it off

10. (Optional) Go back and draw in designs with the wood burner.
